Vintage Brunswick Balke Collender Company Rubber 2 Finger Grip Bowling Ball

T4979 is stamped in the ball (serial number?)
This ball has various scrapes and scratches from use, but it has survived
The thumb hole on this ball appears to have been plugged and redrilled at some point along the way
Packaged for shipping, this item weighs 17 lbs 12 oz, and will be shipped from 43113
Bowling balls were made of very dense wood like lignum vitae until the early 1900's. The wood was prone to chip, and in 1905, the first rubber cover stock ball was produced, and called the 'Evertrue', and I do not believe this ball to be one of those. The Brunswick Balke Collender Company was created in 1884, and incorporated in 1907, and became the Brunswick Corporation on April 10th, 1960.
I could not find much information on the 2 finger grip. It seems to have started sometime in the later 1800's, and it seems it was largely phased out in favor of the conventional 3 finger grip by 1950. I
n researching this ball, I found out that there really isn't a lot of information out there about this era of bowling, so everything presented here is just a best guess. If you see something I missed, or have misstated, please send me a message.
