The Tokoname-yaki kyusu can easily handle deep steamed tea with fine tea leaves.  The inside of the kyusu is not glazed, making it difficult for the strainer to slip out of place. This is another reason why you should choose Tokoname ware. Because it is something you use all the time, you should choose Tokoname-yaki for your kyusu.
The craftsmen have worked hard to create this "traditional technique" that Tokoname-yaki kyusu prides itself on.
Tokoname-yaki kyusu is made of clay with a high content of iron oxide, which reacts with the tannin in the tea when it is brewed.
This reacts with the tannin in the tea, removing bitterness and mellowing the tea.
The body and lid must match each other perfectly,
If the kyusu body and lid are well made, there will be no rattling. Tokoname ware is made by grinding together the two lids one by one to make a lid that fits the body of the kyusu.
