    Description

American violin by George B. Edwards Salisbury, North Carolina 1972. Label indicates that this is violin number 2. The violin is rather bold and masculine. It measures 14 1/8 inches long. 8 1/4" lower bout, 4 1/2" middle, 6 7/8" upper bout. The scale is standard at 13". All other measurements are standard and accurate. The arching is high and the carving is well executed. The wood is traditional spruce with a nicely figured maple back. The finish appears to be an amply applied oil varnish that has some wear and dings the most noticeable in two spots on the top. Overall the work has the appearance of a reasonably talented amature. Where the violin excels is in the tone and response. The violin is powerful and sweet and maintains its character all the way up the neck. It is strung with orchestral guage Tomastic Dominant strings. The violin is a bit heavier that most at19 ounces and the heavier strings help to create maximum tone and projection. The neck has a wedge added to increase the neck projection and the overstand. The neck has been recarved to adjust it to a comfortable size. The violin will ship in a brand new oblong case and includes a decent freshly rehaired bow. International buyers use the ebay global shipping program.
