Description
This violin was given to me as a Luis and Clark; however, I am not sure of the actual maker, as there is no label on the inside. I think it is most likely only a nice imitation of one. At any rate, I've played a genuine Luis and Clark and I find this to be just as good.It is fitted with Dominant strings, an Aubert bridge, and Perfection planetary geared pegs. I am also including a foam shoulder rest that adheres directly to the body of the instrument, as a conventional shoulder rest will have nowhere to attach. I can include a case if needed.
As with all carbon fiber violins, the instrument has a noticeably different character under the ear than a wood violin. I don't find it unpleasant, but it has taken me a little while to get used to.
It is quite fun to play. It is light and plays easily, and somehow it seems more forgiving with the intonation of double stops than a regular violin. The low end is full and warm. It is decently powerful without being harsh. I've spent many hours on it and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Here is some improvisation to demonstrate the sound. I am using double bass rosin on a rather poor quality bow that is severely in need of a rehair. If you have a good bow you should be able to get a better sound than mine.
