    Description

Elaborately Costumed Joao Perotti Ethnic Felt Cloth Lady Doll wTags Brazil 1930s.
Fruit & Flower Seller is a 14" (minus her head basket) felt and cloth ethnic doll that was manufactured by the Joao Perotti Company in Brazil from 1930-on.  She retains one
of her Perotti stamps on the front portion of her drawers.  Fruit & Flower Seller is a pretty doll with a pressed felt mask face that is detailed with one stroke black brows, black eyes (paint loss) detailed with finely painted upper lashes, rosy cheeks, and a painted closed mouth.  Her black hair is fashioned from mohair, while her jewelry includes brass earrings and a double-strand wooden necklace.  Her body is "frozen" into its position with the exception of her legs that are floppy jointed at her thighs and knees.  Her wooden soled heels have a moth hole and are lacking the felt flowers.  Her body sustains a moth hole on the back side of one leg.  She is all original and dressed in flouncy, colorful, ornate Brazilian costuming.  Her costuming is sewn from rayons and felts and embellished with laces and yarn.  Unfortunately her outfit has become dusty and wrinkled from age and storage. I haven't seen any holes or tears in her costume.  Her head basket retains its banana and flower contents that are dusty too.  Though she may need cleaning and/or vacuuming, Fruit & Flower seller is an early and appealing ethnic doll that represents a culture that is fast fading.  Interestingly, it is rumored that the Perotti dolls were inspired by a former worker at the Lenci Doll Company who left Italy for Brazil.
