    Description

Letter is interesting amongst interesting persons. John Prentice of Derry NH is the author and a lawyer, In 1788 he is already the State AG and he is in debt to another lawyer apparently Noah Webster who was in NH's provincial congressional delegation and would actually die in 1788 and was older by thus time.
Prentice married well and was controversial and apparently flamboyant. His wife's father was a wealthy doctor in Marblehead MA. Prentice used his dowry to by a large tract of land in Derry and built a 10,000 SF house. that burned down in the 1920's. He refers here to going to Marblehead to get money to pay Emery, ostensibly from his Father-In-Law.
Emery's son goes on to teach at the Exeter Academy and instrumental in influencing Daniel Webster who was a student there at that time. The letter was delivered by Captain Cheney a notable soldier in NH's efforts in the revolution. Everyone seemed to have a role in the war for the colonies except Prentice who was censored for a role in signing the departing letter for the MA royal governor.
